Between Commentary and the Comedy: Jewish and Christian elements in Immanuel of Rome’s poetry

This talk examines the poetry of Immanuel of Rome, a late medieval Jewish poet who lived in the Italian peninsula. It focuses on his Hebrew celestial tour, loosely modeled on Dante’s Divine Comedy, to demonstrate various streams of inspiration from both Jewish and Christian textual traditions.

Dr. Dana Fishkin is an Associate Professor of Humanities at Touro University’s Lander College for Women and Graduate School of Jewish Studies. Her book, Bridging Worlds: Poetry & Philosophy in the Works of Immanuel of Rome will be published by Wayne State University Press in Summer 2023.
