Human Fraternity: Implications of a Ground-Breaking Document for Christian-Muslim Relations On February 4, 2019 / 29 Jumada 1 1440, Pope Francis and Shaykh al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb made history in Abu Dhabi. They signed the first recorded joint statement between a Roman Pontiff and the Shaykh al-Azhar, one of the oldest and most revered institutions of Muslim religious learning. Leaders of the National Catholic-Muslim Dialogue heed the call of the document and engage in reflection on its challenging content.
