The history of the interrelationship between science and religion has been mixed. Pope John Paul II wrote that theology and science must enter into a “common interactive relationship” whereby, while maintaining its own integrity, each discipline is “open to the discoveries and insights of the other” to discern scientific and theological truth. We will explore different models on the relationship between science and theology and provide three examples in Catholic teaching to illustrate this relationship: climate change, same-sex parenting, and neuroscience.
