Encounters in Doing Theology Contextually on the US-Mexican Border

The biblical injunction to “welcome the stranger”, teaching often overlooked in our current xenophobic climate, continues to challenge the consciences of believers in this current age of migration. How best to do theology from the perspective of those who are providing hospitality on an international border that has not only witnessed atrocities but also a tragic, summer massacre aimed at “killing Mexicans”? After outlining some concrete steps taken by local churches in the twin cities of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, this lecture focuses on theology’s liberating potential to practice “God-speak” in difficult times such as ours.
