Arrianne Whittaker is currently a Postulant with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN. A few months before her entrance Arrianne visited the Sisters of St. Agnes in Fond du Lac, WI mostly just for fun since she had never seen their motherhouse; but had been contact with the CSA order as part of her discernment process. At this visit S. Jean Hinderer, vocation director, requested that she interview Arrianne about her journey of discerning a call to religious life in hopes of providing insight to other women discerning their own vocation. Both Arrianne and Sr. Jean gave us permission to publish the interview.
Arrianne grew up in Germantown, WI and has three siblings; two sisters and a brother. She graduated in 2009 from Marquette University with a BS degree in Biomedical Sciences. After college Arrianne was a full time volunteer with St. Ann Medical Clinic in Terre Haute IN, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods IN. When Arrianne began her year of volunteer service she also felt called to engage questions concerning her own vocation. She had suspected she had a call to religious life since high school and her time at “the Woods” affirmed this yearning within her; she found a home in God’s Providence at the Woods. She also attended the June 2010 Catholics on Call Conference, as a part of her discernment process. Arrianne hopes that her future ministry might be serving others in the medical field in some capacity.
