Issued at the outset of his pontificate, Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium (2013) called for a missionary reform of the church and indicated key directions this reform should take. In the course of the next years in hundreds of speeches and addresses, Francis further clarified his thinking on mission and on the changes needed to revitalize it: all the baptized need to be awakened to their calling, spiritually regenerated, shown the expansive and world-transforming nature of their task, and guided to avoid common counter-missionary attitudes and practices. The lecture explores these topics and offers a framework for understanding the new direction of Catholic mission. Recorded at CTU for the 2018 Annual Louis Luzbetak, SVD Lecture on World Mission.
