Rev. Mark R. Francis, C.S.V., President of Catholic Theological Union presents the lecture "The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of Vatican II: A Vision Still to be Realized."  This presentation explores how the bishops of Vatican II saw that the key to both reforming and updating the Church depended on a renewal of Catholic liturgical life. While the vision of Church contained in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy was partially implemented, the whole of that vision remains to be fully realized.  Recorded live at CTU on Sunday, November 10th as part of Sundays at CTU.

What if we woke up one morning and discovered that the Second Vatican Council had never happened? We would discover that a place like Catholic Theological Union would not exist, that there would be little or no lay ministry in the Church, that we would have no liturgy in our own language; that there would be little or no reading of the Bible, that most people would still believe that there is no salvation outside the Church. In his talk, Fr. Bevans will offer his reflections as a kind of thought experiment.
