The profound resonances between Mexican, Peruvian, and Filipino colonial experience may be appreciated by looking into the indigenous culture’s reception of the Christianizing process. Roman Catholicism, the Spanish imported religion, was successfully implanted by the Spanish missionaries who saw themselves as liberators ordained by God to wage spiritual battle against the devil’s stronghold on the pagan peoples.

Amidst a struggle against extremists in various communities, religious diversity and the need for coexistence are among the central features of life in modern society. Can contemporary Jews develop a theology of other religions that is both faithful to the Jewish tradition and respectful towards the beliefs and practices of others? What resources exist that could inform such an approach?

June 1, 2010:

I am the oldest of five children. My siblings, their families, and I all remain active in the "practice" of our Catholic faith. Of my eleven cousins on my mother's side all but two also remain active in the "practice" of the Catholic faith. We are also all active members of our parish communities. How unusual is this in our world today? VERY.

January 1, 2011:
Many of the wishes and prayers for our world at the beginning of a new year contain the hope for “peace.” We wish that we can somehow get beyond the conflicts and divisions, and start fresh again.
