Inaugural Week

Connie Rakitan and Deacon Tom Lambert

Mental Illness: Compassion, Action, Hope

Mental illness occurs in all cultures yet it is feared, misunderstood, stigmatized, and often ignored. This workshop is an attempt to break down some of these barriers by identifying varying forms of mental illness and describing appropriate responses from the perspective of faith communities. Participants will be invited to discuss mental illness from familial, pastoral, cross-cultural, and social justice perspectives.

Presenters: Connie Rakitan is the Co-founder and Program Director of Faith and Fellowship. She serves as Chair of the Chicago Archdiocesan Commission on Mental Illness and is a CTU Ministry Practicum supervisor. Deacon Tom Lambert is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Faith and Fellowship. He is the founder of the Chicago Archdiocesan Commission on Mental Illness.
